Chapter History

Our History

With ASUO (UO student government) proposing to cut all of the funding for the Oregon Marching Band, the OMBC (Oregon Marching Band Council) spearheaded a campaign to maintain the finances necessary to keep the band running. OMBC President Michael Suskin proposed to establish a chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at the University of Oregon. In 2007, new OMBC President Matt Takimoto, along with members of OMBC, established a colony of Kappa Kappa Psi.

The Iota Kappa chapter of Boise State University was named Mu Pi’s advising chapter. By 2008, the University of Oregon was approved for the Kappa Kappa Psi Membership Education Program (MEP) and in December 2009, the University of Oregon was approved for installation. Just a few months later, the colonists underwent the Second and Third Degree Rituals, and the Mu Pi chapter was installed as an active chapter on February 14th, 2010.

Since then, the Mu Pi chapter has grown and become a place for leadership, service, and brotherhood serving the Oregon Marching Band and the UO School of Music and Dance.
